Overview
When someone cancels during a free trial, ask whether they just need more time and offer seven more days. Coconote says it beat a discount and a pause in a cancel flow that kept about a quarter of cancellers. Apple’s own cancel screen cannot offer it.
Some people cancel a trial before the charge because they have not had time to judge it, not because they have decided against it. Coconote’s users are students, who also stop paying over the summer (Coconote’s founders).
Fits when
- Products billed on the web (Stripe), where the cancel flow is yours
- Trials where people may not reach the value before the charge date
- Audiences with seasonal breaks, where a pause fits better than a discount (Coconote’s students)

Good to knowFit and evidence notes
- Fit to consider
- App Store subscribers cancel in Apple’s settings, whose cancel screen offers a discount or plan switch, not extra days
- Also consider
- Hiding or delaying the cancel button behind the offers, which California prohibits and users resent
- About the evidence
- The only outcome is Coconote’s, for the whole flow; the extension’s own share is not given.
Copy includes 2 more limitations, 2 failure modes, the full evidence, and adaptation guidance.
