Who handles your data

Motifs is operated from the Philippines. We decide how information is used to run motifs.dev. Contact motifsdev@gmail.com for privacy questions or requests. Dodo Payments separately handles payment and tax information as merchant of record for purchases.

Information we collect

• Account and sign-in: your email, account ID, sign-in method, and session information. Supabase provides authentication. If you choose GitHub or a passkey, the information needed for that sign-in method is processed too.
• Reading and use: the records you copy and the allowance used by your account or a random browser ID; play view and open counts; and any answer you give to “Will this help what you’re building?”, including your optional description.
• Site analytics: PostHog receives page views, interaction events, browser and device information, and client-side errors. It uses browser identifiers to associate events. When you sign in, we identify your analytics activity with your account ID and email; signing out resets that browser’s analytics identity.
• Feedback: the message and any product names you enter, plus your account or a random browser ID. If you are signed out and supply a reply email, we keep it. For a bug report, we also keep the page you came from and your browser’s user-agent string.
• Billing: plan, payment and subscription identifiers, status, paid-period dates, and the account tied to the purchase. Dodo Payments collects payment details at checkout; Motifs does not receive or store your full card number.
• Technical and security data: requests may include an IP address and browser information in hosting or security logs. If enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile processes a bot-check token on sign-in and feedback forms.

How we use it

We use this information to sign you in, enforce the free copy allowance, deliver membership and MCP access, reconcile purchases, respond to messages, measure which plays are viewed and opened, prevent abuse, and maintain the site. Reader feedback is private to the editor; its counts are not shown publicly. A play view or click is recorded as a play ID and time for aggregate site readouts, without an account or device ID in that event.

When you connect an agent to the MCP, the agent sends its lookup requests to Motifs. We use your signed-in account to check access and return the requested record. The agent and its provider may process what you request or paste there under their own terms; Motifs does not receive your project files through the ordinary copy button.

When a library search through the MCP finds nothing or little, we keep its words, filters and result count, with no account, device or IP address, for 90 days, to decide what to research next. Please do not put personal or company details in a search.

Who receives information

Supabase hosts our authentication and database. Dodo Payments processes checkout, receipts, taxes, and refunds. PostHog provides site analytics and error reporting so we can understand use and diagnose problems. Cloudflare Turnstile may check form submissions when enabled. Our hosting provider processes requests needed to serve the site. These providers handle information needed for their services, and some may process it outside the Philippines. We do not use the Motifs site to send reader information to an advertising network.

Other sites linked as research sources have their own privacy practices. Opening one of those links leaves Motifs.

Retention and security

We keep account, access, and billing records while needed to operate the service, answer support requests, meet legal obligations, or resolve disputes. Feedback and usefulness answers remain for editorial review until removed. A random browser ID may remain on your device for up to 400 days unless you clear it earlier. Hosting and provider logs follow the relevant provider’s retention settings.

Access to private records is restricted by account and administrative permissions. No online service can promise perfect security. If you think your account or information is at risk, email us.

Your choices and rights

You can use the public library without an account, choose whether to provide optional feedback, and clear browser storage through your browser. You may ask us to access, correct, delete, or explain the personal information we hold about you, or object to its use, by emailing motifsdev@gmail.com. We may need to verify that the request is yours and retain records where law or a legitimate dispute requires it. Applicable law may give you additional rights, including the right to complain to a privacy authority.
