Overview
Write the listing so a stranger scrolling the feed gets it at once. A tagline that says what the product does for the customer, often against a product they already know. Gallery images that each show one feature, zoomed in close, with a headline. A first comment that says why you built it. OpenSEO won Product of the Day in 2026 by putting its effort here and skipping the demo video, and the Product Hunt curator in the same video asks for exactly this.
Hundreds of launches compete for the same feed every day, and curators decide which are featured. The winners describe themselves in a sentence a stranger understands: OpenSEO called itself the open-source alternative to Semrush and Ahrefs at a tenth of the price. Marc Lou, across 21 launches, puts the tagline above everything else and warns that nobody reads a screenshot of a whole dashboard. Product Hunt's curator asks for the same things: plain words, the product's stage, and a demo of the end result. Where they differ is video: OpenSEO skipped it, while Rohan Chaubey and Selling With Nas recommend a short one.
Fits when

- Builders whose buyers browse Product Hunt: developer tools, indie SaaS, AI and productivity tools
- Products with a known alternative they can be compared with in one line

Good to knowFit and evidence notes
- Fit to consider
- A clear listing improves the case for featuring, but curators decide, and engagement is one factor among several.
- About the evidence
- The results are founders' own accounts of launches that also had audiences; none separates the listing's effect.
Copy includes 2 more limitations, 4 failure modes, the full evidence, and adaptation guidance.
